Community engagement was an integral part of the Chapel Hill 2020 process, and continued community involvement is key for creating a Chapel Hill that adheres to and fosters the Community Vision. This energy that the participants brought to this process should be channeled into community groups that can tackle some of the most difficult issues facing Chapel Hill, such as the town’s reliance on automobiles. One model of engagement could include community committees to continue important discussions identified during the Chapel Hill 2020 process that cannot be addressed by the Town alone.
This structure should embrace a broader definition of neighborhoods to include communities without a geographic border, such as the “community of apartment dwellers,” who live in many geographic areas. Other such examples of “community” exist in the greater Chapel Hill community.
